Aesculus x carnea ‘Briotii’ - “Red Horse Chestnut”
Medium/Large. Compact form of A. x carnea selected for the red flowers produced middle to end of May. Fruits rarely produced. A slow growing tree with roots which tend to lift pavements, so best planted in wide verges or parklands.
Forms a super wide avenue. The blood-red flowers which are larger than the species do not appear until the tree is 8-10 years old. Very tolerant of industrial pollution, an excellent ornamental tree.
